ABOUT \\ HOME \\ CLIENTS
Darl Rastorfer helps clients clearly and persuasively communicate their ambitions, achievements, histories, and programs through services that include research, writing, documentation, and the production of print and digital media.

An experienced professional, Darl developed his skills working in the fields of health and healthcare; urban and community development; city and regional planning; architecture; historic preservation; and civil engineering. His early practice included the on-site documentation and analysis of pioneering civic projects for an international foundation, followed by a senior editorship with Architectural Record, a McGraw-Hill Companies trade journal.

Writing & Editing
Darl writes accessible, succinct, and accurate texts that integrate analysis, data, and key ideas into compelling stories. The work speaks across fields and professions in a voice that resonates with the general reading public. His clients include foundations, nonprofits, government organizations, and private enterprise.

Much of Darl’s writing and editing is illustrated. As an art editor, he acquires archival material or commissions drawings, diagrams, and photography that -- combined with their text -- engages readers and underscores core messages.

Darl is the author of an interview series posted on the website of a nonprofit organization; web-based descriptions of foundation-supported programs in public health; brochures and booklets for public-interest urban development organizations; news stories for construction and design firms; and books for commercial and academic presses. His editorial services – content editing and line editing – support the final development of technical and research reports, essays, position papers, feature articles, and books.

RESEarch & Documentation
Convincing reporting and story-telling relies on in-depth research and documentation.

Darl conducts interviews, site surveys, literature searches, and historic documents surveys. He researches and acquires visual documentation by collecting copies of historic drawings and photographs, and commissioning new photography and graphics. Darl’s research and documentation produces the material that forms the backbone of exhibitions, books, articles, award submissions, and interpretive text for public displays.

Publication Services
Darl helps clients develop effective communications and marketing material with services that span from planning to production. Using interviews and facilitated discussions, clients shape and are directly involved in clarifying their objectives, key messages, target audiences, and media formats for optimum impact.

Working with a group of talented associates, Darl seamlessly coordinates research, writing, artwork selection, graphic design, and the production of media products.
